{Half} Day in the Life with the Walton Family
When we look at our everyday lives, the word glamorous probably wouldn’t come to mind for most of us. It certainly wouldn’t for my own. But, there is something absolutely beautiful in our everyday moments. Maybe it’s Innocent games our children play, or the little giggle that Dad gets out of the baby, consoling one of your babies when they’re fussy even though you’ve been going nonstop since before dawn, or making dinner with your family. I wanted to start doing more of these Day in the Life sessions for a few reasons, one of those being that I love documentary/journalistic style photography, but also because I truly believe we all deserve to see the beauty in our everyday lives, especially when we may not always have the time to stop and look for ourselves. And one more reason is for the moms…as moms we are usually the ones running around taking care of everyone else, the house, the kids, the errands, and nurturing relationships. I want moms to not be ashamed that they didn’t get the house cleaned, or that they need to take a mental break from their kids from time to time, or that they completely forgot to make a meal for themselves all day because they’re so busy juggling it all.
There are many social media profiles that portray perfection, but the truth is, there is nothing real about those feeds that we scroll through. No one should envy what they see on social media, because what you have right now is what’s real. I want to start doing more of this…showing real life.
The Walton family is a group of rock stars. I have photographed them a few times in the past, but this time was obviously a very different type of session and I am SO grateful for them letting me into their home and letting me just jump in as a member of the family for the evening. I followed them around and documented the happenings and interactions of the afternoon and evening. From the kids playing, to making dinner for the whole family (a nightly tradition that I loooove!), to rocking the babies to sleep, bedtime prayers, and finally a moment with a spoon, a pint of ice cream, and each other. They are an amazing team with such a beautiful connection with their whole family.
Enjoy the photos below from my time with this really awesome group!
