Natural Light in YOUR Home | Quick Tips – Haylo Photo by Heather

A great way to improve your own photographs, even cell phone pictures, is to just look around your home for natural light! I’ve written a blog about looking for light before, it’s just because I’m so enamored with beautiful light! (Yes, family may say I’m crazy when I make them pull off the side of the road because it’s perfect light for a photograph…but hey, you have to do what gets the job done). Here’s a couple I grabbed of my daughter the other morning. We had just moved into our new home, hardly any furniture or anything, no flashes, no reflector, nothing, here’s what we got…

OK…back to the point, the above pictures were in a bright window, but you could be in the most shadowed part of the room and if you just turn your child’s (or whoever) face towards the window or any light source…snap…and poof, you have a beautiful, artistic, maybe even moody picture! It’s all about pointing the important part of your subject (most of the time the face 😉 ) towards the light! Easy enough right?! You can do this with your own camera or cell phone, just remind yourself to find naturally occurring light.
