Rachel & Greg | Day in the Life Session
I was talking to my mom not too long ago about the types of work I really want to do and where I feel I could do well, and be happy. Literally the next day, Rachel posted something in a local photography group I belong to about needing a photographer willing to photograph her and her husband in their home doing everyday things. I immediately contacted her and told her I would loooove to be considered. As we chatted more, I learned that they were going to be moving out of state, and this was their first home together so they wanted to kind of honor that in a way, and have these photographs of them in this special space together, documenting how they lived there. I thought this was the best, and sweetest idea. They are photographers too by the way.
I went to meet them, and we all hit it off, and knew we’d be good with me following them around their home for half the day. Let’s be honest, having someone follow you with a camera could very easily be awkward as heck, but I try to make it as comfortable as possible.
The day rolled around for our session and…it was awesome! We started the morning with them getting up, making the bed, and heading down to the kitchen. Guys, pay attention; after seven years together, Greg still makes a tasty breakfast and hand-ground slow pour coffee for his lady every morning. I have to add that it was the best coffee I’ve ever had…in a super cool mug. I’m all about cool mugs. 😉
Rachel made these tasty coconut almond bars while Greg made a second round of coffee. Seeing these two go through their routine was so sweet.
I’ve moved many times in my adult life, so following them around, knowing that these are honoring their time in their first home together, was really special. I know what it’s like to leave a house behind that holds so many memories. Those memories don’t leave, you take those with you and hold them close.
After breakfast, they went on a walk around the neighborhood, soaking it all in, not to forget a detail, even hugging their own special tree. The rest of our time together consisted of Mario Cart, and the series finale of The Office. All three of us cried at the end of the episode. Luckily for me, the big camera in front of my face kept my tears less than obvious.
Not only was this session creatively refreshing, but so was witnessing the love between the two. What they have together, is something truly special.
Colorado is lucky to get these two, and if you need a rad photographer couple, they’re it! There’s lots of adventures to be had…let them begin and end with love. <3
